This weekend [livejournal.com profile] corivax and I reassembled the ink-roller pivots and connecting rods on the printing press. It's nice to see visible progress as the number of primed parts grows, and with all these bearing surfaces cleaned and greased the motion of the press is noticably better.

How lovely!

How do you people find TIME for all your projects and hobbies?

I've wondered the same thing about the amount of media you're able to consume. I suspect we both consider sleep as optional much of the time. :)

In the case of the printing press, it doesn't actually eat up all that much time. Take a part off, start it electrostripping, come back in a few hours. Scrub off the ferric oxide slime, spray paint it next time there is daylight and not-rain available. (That part is getting easier as the year progresses, at least. And I can overlap it with atlatl practice, which has the same requirements.) I have to make sure I keep parts moving through the pipeline, but the total effort isn't that large.

Does it actually print at this point, or are there more bearing surfaces to be cleaned first?

It's missing very important things like ink rollers. :)

Does it all move correctly, though?

Yes. Given inkrollers and some type, it would print.

I have a lead slug with my old name on it in a bold italic Bodoni, but nothing to set it in. Do you have any type?

None at all, nor any furniture to set it with. It's fairly cheap on ebay, but just not a priority until I have it all fixed up properly. I don't want to cycle it much until all the bearing surfaces are cleaned out. No use letting the grit in there do any more damage at this point.

*grin* Very cool. Nice to see it more assembled in the picture and was happy-making to see the printing press in person. I like seeing these progress updates on it. =)

Dear readers: this photo doesn't do it nearly justice compared to how pretty it is in person. :)

And the ink wheel at the top makes such a very satisfying Myst-like clank-clank sound.
