Well, since he should currently be at Consonance (http://www.consonance.org/), I'd assume that he means literally right now. :) Of course, he's part of Escape Key (http://www.cyphertext.net/escapekey/) with his wife, so it's a regular thing, just on a larger scale now. :)
Having now experienced both, I would vastly prefer to be completely surrounded by filkers, than by barbershoppers. While I like good barbershop, less-than-good is painful, and at least with filk there's MUCH more variety of material and style.
