(no subject)

Having now watched a considerable amount of Food Network's cake-related programming, I wish to make an observation and an offer. Bakers of the world: you suck at mechanical design. Please, please, please, ask for help. It doesn't have to be me, though it does sound pretty awesome. But just ask. It can be done so much better. You should focus on cake skills and contract out armatures and motors.

Which episode did you see?

The Cirque Du Solie ep was bad for that. "Oh I didn't think copper would bend like that." {face plant}

Oh you mean like the one episode of Challenge where the one competitor thought they could hang three layers of cake off of what amounted to a thin shepherd's hook...off to one side of the main cake.

And not expect it to be unstable.

Hell, how about they just make a practice cake before the show? They all act like that idea never even occurs to them.

One of the competitors on last episode of Food Network Challenge I watched said she used to be a mechanical engineer. She didn't have any problems with the structure or her cake but sadly didn't win.
