Drat, my drillpress chart doesn't suggest what the best RPM range for drilling leather is.

I'd recommend a punch, rather than a drill. Cleaner hole, less likely to tear.

These were just little #50 starter holes for sewing so I could get the needle through 3 layers. Not the most elegant solution, but it worked out okay. The layers are also glued together. Feels pretty solid.

Use your lowest speed -- the fibers will tend to grab, so you'll want lots of torque.

I've had good luck pretending like the leather's wood.

One time I was using this old, old bandsaw and they had a chart on the side for sawing different materials. Steel, aluminum, of course, but also bakelite, meat (frozen), leather, and gold.
