Drat, my drillpress chart doesn't suggest what the best RPM range for drilling leather is.

I'd recommend a punch, rather than a drill. Cleaner hole, less likely to tear.

These were just little #50 starter holes for sewing so I could get the needle through 3 layers. Not the most elegant solution, but it worked out okay. The layers are also glued together. Feels pretty solid.
