(no subject)

I'm finally watching the extended version of Lynch's Dune. So far, I understand why it was Alan Smithee'd.

So, who else has practiced walking without rhythm, fremin style?

I'm like Christopher Walken in a Fatboy Slim video, baby. If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm.

I could never stay out of rythem.

I was in the habit for a very long time of breathing in through my mouth and out through my nose. I found it worked really well in the winter time.

Allan Smithee? I just remember it as being unintentionally funny in several places.

For a couple decades, when a movie is disowned by its director, the tradition was to list Alan Smithee instead.

Yup.

Sometimes I made my brother be the thumper.

The first 15 minutes of that version gave me a newfound appreciation for editing. Was there anything good in the rest? We turned it off pretty quick.

(haven't tried walking w/o rhythm, have noted that I do walk with rhythm and am therefore doomed if there are spice worms in any of the deserts we hike through)

It actually settled down quite a bit after that horrible intro, just adding a scene here and there. Overall it fleshed out the story some at the expense of making a long movie even longer. I'm a big enough fan of both the original books and the Lynch movie that getting to see stuff like water of life being made was pretty neat.

the original version was already insanely long and confusing for anyone who didnt read the books. i have to note here that i am not a dune fan at all. i still have to wonder who thought it would be a good idea to take a story as long and involved as dune and have david lynch direct it.

I have. It keeps the sandworms away.

I try, from aesthetic reasons, to not step on cracks, which often means nonpatterned walking, especially in malls where there are random tile size arrangements.

Yay minor OCD! Around 6th grade I went through a phase where I could only step into a new area with my right foot. It faded by the end of high school, but I still do it occasionally. I never thought of it as training for Arrakis before.
