Sound Transit Ceremony

I just got back from the Sound Transit groundbreaking ceremony. I can't believe they are actually starting construction. I've been waiting for this for a very long time. Yay light rail!

The event was very Seattle. All the standard groundbreaking details -- speeches, the shiny shovels, posing for photographs, etc. But there was also a Chinese dragon ceremony and the catered food included tofu sandwiches and a lot of very good Tully's coffee.

Mayor Nickels is still a bit of a phony, and Ron Sims impresses me more every time I hear him speak.

My god, maybe we'll have light rail after all. I had actually given up. Now if we could just kill off the monorail spectre...

Y'know, for the longest time, I was somehow under the impression that opposition to light rail had been succesful, and that it was simply not going to happen. I find myself hoping that now ground has been broken, it will be too politically expensive not to complete the damn thing.

Now, if we can just get a bridge built to Kitsap county via vashin island, life will be perfect.

(*running away*)

That was the best piece if news I'd seen in weeks. I wonder if it'll ever make it out to the east side. I assume that they'll eventually get it all the way to the airport.

Is this where I taunt you about how we not only have light rail in Portland, but a second line to the airport, and the third line is going to open next spring, months ahead of schedule?

Or I could just stick with yay and good luck...
