Singularity Goodness

My Pocket PC Phone arrived today. I am posting this from the bus. From my cell phone. Using a (mostly) real browser. Thank god I was born when I was. Things are getting so interesting.

Why'd you go with the pocket pc over any of the other handheld/hiptop/multi-function electronic gizmos?

I had used one before and really liked it. (And T-Mobile now offers unlimited GPRS for $20/month!) But I know I have weird tastes -- I liked my Visor Phone. Big, bulky, overdesigned and overpriced are not always turn-offs for me. I sunk some not-inconsiderable time and money into trying to build a real wearable once, to give you an idea of what I'm really looking for. Right now, something like the Pocket PC Phone seems like the best combination of ease/price/functionality to the ubiquitous computing/wearable/gargoyle concept I dream of.

I wanted something like the Pocket PC, too, and the Danger Device (I love saying that) ended up meeting my needs best of all the options I had in my price range - when considering the fact that in the next six weeks it'll support ssh, telnet, java, and downloadable apps. I've eliminated my PDA and my cell phone and my digital camera from my batman belt... my Sidekick does all that. I feel naked now, only having one thing to carry.
I know the Pocket PCs are selling like hotcakes, though, so I wondered what the advantages were.

I seriously considered a Sidekick but decided it just wasn't enough to be worthwhile. Haven't they been promising real apps for like a year now? I just couldn't bring myself to carry around a PDA that doesn't even have a calculator.

I'd love to integrate my digital camera with everything else, but none of the options so far live up to my demands for image quality. I particularly lust after the ability to email/post images remotely. I think I can do it with a CF->SD adaptor, but I know the SD slot on my phone is partially crippled. I'll have to look into it. Next time there is a WTO type real-time event, I want to be able to wander around making real-time updates. Gargoyle journalism, mmmmm.

I always hate changing the arrangement of my utility belt. I spend weeks reaching for the wrong item. My problem now is that I'm out of room. The digital camera is pushing things as it is.

La la la, I've slept maybe 5 hours in the last 48. Matrix Revolutions is yummy. Maybe I'll go have breakfast now.
