Kurosawa fanboy ramblings

I've been on a bit of a Kurosawa binge the last few days. I want to be Toshiro Mifune when I grow up.

More realistically, I want to do one of the scenes where someone is gliding through a room filled with enemies, cutting them all down, leaving a trail of people in various stages of collapse behind them. I don't know how I would work this into one of our films, much less get the people required to do it, but I really want to try.

Currently my plan is: Continue taking kendo. Start taking iaido sometime next year. Cultivate contacts, looking for people with any amount of acting talent. Shamelessly exploit them to make some kind of samurai film. Relax, knowing I have fulfilled the great Barenaked Ladies/One Week prophesy.

I STILL say that Solemn Words (http://studios.midgard.org/films/solemnwords.html) counts.

I understand that dream. Mifune is one of my favorite actors, and Seven Samurai is my favorite film. (and if, by some quirk of fate, you aren't already reading Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, you have a great treat ahead of you.) A good friend of mine who used to be a cop says that one must study Mifune to see how a man should walk.

Do you want to be the actor who leaves this trail of corpses or do you want to be the guy who films it?

Oh, and Barenaked Ladies? Do I want to know?

Hrm, I'm afraid I haven't been. (I'm terribly uncultured when it comes to comics.) I'll have to look for some.

I'd much rather be the director. I'm a hopeless actor, and while I'm not a particularly good director yet, I think I have room for improvement there.

The group Barenaked Ladies have a song called One Week which includes the lyrics: Like Kurosawa I make mad films, Okay I don't make films, But if I did they'd have a samurai. Ever since starting to make movies, I've been joking that is a prophesy that we need to fulfill. [livejournal.com profile] vixyish claims that the Lego samurai figure used in Solemn Words counts, but she is obviously a heretic.

*raises hand* my acting experience is limited to playing a courtesan in a high school play, but I have some tech theater experience, so if you ever need a hand, let me know... ;)

onnagashimasu! I'll volunteer myself and happily ping my local and elsewhere martial arts contacts. Just say when/where/how many/what styles.
