I was reading the most recent copy of Filmmaker magazine from the subscription we won in last year's Film2880 contest. In a nicely circular fashion, there was an ad for the NYC Midnight Movie Making Madness contest. The first round is geographic-independent and two weeks long. Winners for each group get $1000 and advance to the second round, which is held in NYC and is only 24 hours long. Grand prize is $10,000.

Do we want to enter this? The entry fee is $75. I'm dubious of our chances, and a trip to NYC would be expensive -- $1000 wouldn't even begin to cover it. But at two weeks long the first round would be easy enough, and we did do well in a similar contest last year... Speaking of, I just checked and no word yet on rather or not the Port Townsend Film Festival will be holding the same contest again. Given the audience interest last year, I'm assuming they will. Maybe we should just do that again and aim for first place this year.

Whether you do the NYC one, the Port Townsend one, or both, I'm happy to help. . .

I'd love to see you go for the NYC one, but I can see where the money thing would be a problem. Of course, you could just do the first round, and pocket the $1000 if you win it. (Unless that's against the contest rules--i.e. you have to do something for round 2 if you win round 1--but I haven't looked, so.)
