The New $20

So, we're finally getting money with more than one color:

Thoughts? I think it's kind of ugly, really. But I find the step interesting for symbolic reasons.

If we end up with Canadianesque monopoly money (lots of pretty colors, no actual monetary value), I'm going to be terribly cross with the treasury department.

Yeah, that is pretty ugly. But I guess it's good that they tried?

The "hey look, mom, I can warp text" 'USA TWENTY' in the front side right background is very lame, too.

I imagine they change it very slowly so the dumb Americans don't go "uh wait what is our money supposed to look like" and quit accepting old money, or something.

I like what Canada's done with the new series of bills. Although the story quotes are silly. It's like poetry on buses, except for money. As if you're going to get bored and read your money.

On the back of the 10, e.g., is - I think - an excerpt from 'The Sweater', a celebrated(?) oldish Quebecois story about playing hockey and such. I had to read it in early junior high or something. The excerpt's in English, and I read the story in French, so I can't be sure. Ironique.

Phew! Just a Quebecois story

I was expecting the back of the bill to read something like, "Monday: Wear the sweater to SCHOOL!" which would've been really strange.

Aw, The Sweater Rules! Especially the National Film Board animated short film! You know not of what you speak, Bluffy Puppy!

Oh lord help me. One of my co-workers was nattering on a few weeks ago about the US getting colored money, but I wasn't sure if I believed him.

Bear in mind, the old bills from the *last* change are still in circulation. The current (most recent) ones are still called the 'new bills'. And we still get lots of people asking 'can you give me that only in new bills?'

This is just going to suck, this is.

I was thinking that, too.

It's ugly. I was hoping it would be more colorful and prettier, and this isn't anything like the mock-ups I saw a couple years ago. I'm disappointed.

I kind of like it. Of course, whether we should still have Andrew "Trail of Tears" Jackson on our money is another question....
