Last weekend was Norwescon, and I haven't enjoyed a con that much in a very long time. I'm not sure what the difference was. It helped, of course, that I was showing off lots of cool stuff that I've made: I wore the laser helmet and lightsuit at nights when party hoping, and had the electro-mechanical goggles on during the day. I think I finally found an effective outfit to use with my steeplejack pants, judging by the comments I got. (And I finaIly bought a pair of the cargo hakama from the same people!) I also had some other random toys like the fireprop and brass fan to show off at my "you can make neat stuff at home, you don't need fancy tools, honest!" panel. My panels generally went quite well. Only one of them was sparsely attended, and I think I performed my moderation duties with style.

Generally, though, I think I was getting off on the feeling of being part of cluster of very cool people. [profile] vixyish and [personal profile] tfabris's concert was just great, [personal profile] tereshkova2001 was amazing in her avatar costume, and [personal profile] ladydrakaina's TARDIS dress was a bit hit (not to mention super cute). Agora and friends were there in style, and that felt really great.

You know, when athrylis and I went to norwescon last year I think we had a very similar feeling, I think cause there was just so much going on and everyone around was awesome-people...I wish we would have gone this year, it sounds like it was so great!

I wish I 1) had been at Norwescon, and 2) lived at the Agora or someplace like it. The former is because of budget, and the latter is, well, family and delicate negotiations.

I got a really good vibe from Norwescon in 2010, and was thinking of flying to it in future years... though my Seattle network is pretty small, so I'd want to bring some friends along.

Have you been to other good cons?

I used to have a lot of fun at OryCon, but when I went last fall it felt a bit dead. Confluence in Pittsburg seemed pretty great, the one time I went. I have a lot of friends deeply loyal to Arisia and BayCon, but I've never been.

How are the cargo hakama? I've been looking and lusting...

So comfy. I've only worn them once, though, so far. I'm waiting for my Pinkerton vest to get made to really complete that outfit.

You should model them! I'm very curious what cargo hakama look like. I would think you'd need a pretty significant belt to keep them up when the pockets are full, given the number of pockets hakama could support.

However, you either need a very long shirt or bike shorts on underneath. Or be in a very laid back part of the world -- the side slits are very revealing. I might wear them commando at Burning Man, but nowhere else.
