After Solemn Words there is a bit of a gap, because next came the ill-fated attempt at filming Now Be Dragons in January of 2002. After the failure at a near-feature-length movie, we returned to smaller projects. Pre-production on what would end up being Identity Functions started that spring, but work on that was brought to a screaching halt when our camera died. (As commemorated in this comic.) In response I started working on Creator, which is today's featured video.
It includes my single CGI fx experiment (done on POV-Ray, comic version here), and what little live-action it has was captured directly onto my editing station. (The camera still worked, it was the tape drive part that failed.) It's also the only Midgard Studios production which stars yours truly. (Comic version here.) Telling the story of an emergent AI, it's more of a weird mood piece than anything else. I'm not sure I conveyed the madness of the AI well enough, though, nor properly emphasized how pointless and doomed its little cargo cult rebellion is. Oh well.
