Did anyone else have the moment, when they were a kid, that they suddenly wanted to stay with the adults and talk at the table after a big holiday meal instead of running off to play? I think that was my first time I was really conscious of growing up.

Yes, exactly. I remember those rooms filled with chatty relatives as being intolerably boring, and never paid attention to exactly when that changed. But it was a big change.
