Did anyone else have the moment, when they were a kid, that they suddenly wanted to stay with the adults and talk at the table after a big holiday meal instead of running off to play? I think that was my first time I was really conscious of growing up.

Sort of. For me, it was noticing that that's what I was actually doing, and then that I was actually participating in the conversations as an equal. As a child, I was generally a bit too timid to speak up, and tended to keep my mouth shut and my head down.
