So, it turns out that boot shopping sucks. Makes me wish (not for the first time!) that my aesthetic was somewhat closer to a mainstream. Must be nice being able to find things you like so easily.
After walking all over downtown, I only found one model that I kind of liked. It's a bit overdone, and stupid expensive. But also comfy, well made, and pretty close to what I had in mind. And it would look good covered in playa dust. (Yes, that is the footwear equivalent of "that dress would look nice on the floor next to my bed".) Sure is a lot to spend on something like this. I'll probably just end up buying a simple pair of stompy work boots for now. I have other projects coming up that will be much more deserving of my resources.

these boots are made for walking
If you wear a men's 11 or 12... talk to me. I've bought mens boots for years, and might have something you could adopt.

I'm bummed that my flame boots never were great for walking (think it's a slight flaw in this particular pair) and they they don't hold-up as well as I'd like for the money.
If you are looking for standard cheapish but good combat boots, i do recommend checking-out Sportsman's Guide.
