Sitting in SeaTac, on my way to the Bay Area for my weekend of pleasant nerdery.
I haven't posted in longer than I like. So here is a picture of the 24 channels of el-wire sequencer I just finished making last night. That means I can use a microcontroller to turn up to 24 individual strands of el-wire on and off. (For a silly outfit involving an accelerometer.) I'm making it for SeaCompression/next year's Burning Man, but I suspect it will make an appearance at local cons if it works well.
This is actually the first time I've made full, designed circuit boards like this. Once or twice I've etched little simple boards, but I always freehanded the circuit. This is pretty fun!
I really need a better resist-transfer method, though. Ironing by hand is very hit-or-miss. I almost want to get a bunch of these printed up professionally.
The 30 meters of el-wire I'll be using arrived today, and the Arduino+accelerometer should show up early next week. Then I get to find out if this circuit really works with more than a couple of strands turned on! Nothing like a little time pressure to make stuff happen.
