I spent the evening at Matrix: Create Space's craft night, playing with the laser cutter some more.



(The picture above was taken with the shop camera, which is hooked up with a "Eye-Fi" card that is both storage and wifi for automatic upload. MUST HAVE! What an awesome way to do photo documentation of projects! Apparently I'm the only person not to have heard of this product, but whatever. It's awesome.)

I did a new version of the electro-mechanical sunglasses, with the frame and gears cut out of wood. The results were decent, but the gears jam too easily. I'm not accounting for laser kerf yet, but generally I just need to play with the design some. niac had an interesting idea on how to keep the floating lens gears centered nicely.

I also started playing with a laser-cut business card design for Attoparsec. Needs some more work, but could be pretty spectacular. Too expensive to be my standard card, but having a special fancy one would be nice. Tested doing a perforated punch out a clock escapement, but it's just too delicate to be practical. Oh well.

Yeah, I've been wanting to replace my camera with one that uses SD (mine's a sony, uses MS) so I could get an eyefi..

They've got some that do automatic geotagging too, but only using wifi-based location, and most of my photography takes place where there is no wifi. I've been torn between waiting for something that has more gps capabilities (maybe built into the camera or something) and just breaking down and buying one of those gps tracker/logger widgets that track where you are all the time and then apply that data to your photos later based on timestamp.
