Superspy Dream Fishy

I don't normally post about dreams, but this one was weird enough and so oddly detailed that I'm making an exception.

I was in Iraq. There was a humanitarian organization that had access to a military database. I went in to convince the woman in charge that I needed to use their access to steal information for the war effort. She agreed, but it meant her life. We were all grim and determined.

We set out to the facility where their server was. (No remote administration in Iraq, I guess.) There was a lengthy discussion of exactly what query we should run, but thankfully I don't remember any of the details. We're walking through Baghdad now, which looked very New England-y. There were partially assembled anti-aircraft guns/artillery pieces all over, which I first mistook for telephone poles.

Baghdad was on the ocean, somehow, and as we got to the beach there was a 'scenic view' type plaza at the top of the stairs heading down to the water. Arrayed around the plaza were a selection of Iraqi UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) on display. There was an odd man watching over them with some kind of steampunk wearable eyepiece grafted to his skull.

As we headed down to the water, the woman told me that the facility was hidden under the water out on the wharf, which was made up of mostly-submerged floating plates. The woman started pulling on a rusty chain. I helped, and suddenly a giant, bronze grasshopper-y looking structure came out of the water. To my dream self it was obviously an alien artifact and implied that the Iraqis had discovered some kind of alien archaeological remains and technology. The woman showed me how to enter the facility by letting the grasshopper thing eat us.

Inside we had to kill 4 Iraqi guards before heading in deeper using a tram system much like the one in Forbidden Planet. At that point things get fuzzy. We were somehow enslaved by the scientists and forced to help them glue things back together. There was a lot of gluing going on.

I never have cool dreams! I want to be a spy!

Did you kill anyone by glueing them?

What'd you eat last night? I want to know the cool dream formula.

No spicy food. I dream fairly often, but I rarely remember many details, and they're pretty mundane for the most part. The details almost always come from recent events.

I had been up late working on the new bioterrorism surveillance client for work (tedious database queries). I'm always a news junkie and have been overdosing on war coverage for over a week now. The bronze alien device was detailed much like the Jhou dynasty bronzes I saw in the Freer Gallery in DC.

I don't know where the glue came from. It wasn't even epoxy.

Like I said. Only *you* would dream Gulf War Sci-Fi.
