I handed my thesis draft in to my second reader (David Lowe) today. That means I'm done with it until he gets back with (hopefully minimal) revisions.

My presentation is scheduled for next Monday, December 14, at 14:00. ICICS room 104. Anyone who wants to is welcome to come, but I can't promise anything all that hugely interesting, nor even necessarily accessible to those without a computer vision background. Contact me for directions if you need them. I will (of course!) post the thesis here once it is really finalized, if that's the limit of your curiosity.

So, this week will be spent working on the presentation and starting to clean the apartment. I'm not sure when I'll really be free and clear next week. There will still be paperwork and getting the fancy personal thesis copies printed. I'm hoping to move out and be back in Seattle by the Friday. Beyond that... discontinuity. The end of next week is an event horizon shielding me from a singularity. No planning is possible beyond that point.

No such thing for a M.Sc.

I was wondering. One was expected at mine (that I didn't, you know, finish) which was part of the reason I didn't finish. (Because they wanted me back there for six months to set up the committee and arrange scheduling and crap and I said 'uh, no, kthx.') Maybe it was because I was originally in the PhD programme or something and shifted down? idk.

It varies from department to department, of course, but my impression is that they're not common.

I recently learned (again) that it's actually called "ICICS/CS".
Almost exactly half of the building is ICICS, a.k.a. the folks we never talk to.

The day I finally got my Master in Teaching thesis printed up was the same day I fell in love with [livejournal.com profile] meowse. He was highly instrumental in making it happen despite the various mechanical and service failures of the I think three different copy shops we went to, and in maintaining my sanity on such a simultaneously momentous and banal occasion. This is not, I think, coincidental. At any rate, your event horizon description makes perfect sense to me.
