A Tragic Loss
Tonight I watched The Passion of Joan of Arc, which was absolutely wonderful. Hands down the best dramatic silent film I've seen. And it got me thinking...
In 10th grade, in french class, shortly after starting at a new school, we were split into groups to make a presentation about Joan of Arc. Naturally enough, my group filmed a reenactment of her burning. We got some cheap goodwill clothes, sewed them together and stuffed them with newspaper. The effigy was tied to a stake in our driveway and doused liberally with diesel fuel. The camcorder rolled and Joan was put to the torch. or lighter.
The result was pretty horrible, of course. Only a single camera and a single take. I didn't have any editing gear, so all the editing was done with the pause button on the VCR. I hacked up an audio connector so I could play Ride of the Valkyries as scoring. I don't remember what we got as a grade, but I do remember the class being a bit shocked.
After finishing Passion, I thought it would be great to encode my own version and post it for all to enjoy. Unfortunately the tape which I could have sworn it was on -- did not. It had the interview of pagans friends I did for a psychology class the next year. I would post that instead but the audio is really awful, and if any of the interviewees ever found out they would probably track me down and hurt me.

yah know
Speaking of off-movies: do we still hold the reccord as the only two people to have made out to doctor strangelove?
