Right, I should post inauguration pictures! I'm lazy, so this is pretty much the same set I posted on Facebook recently.

vixyish looking back down the escalator as we emerged from Smithsonian station on the way to the We Are One concert.

This was our view of the concert. We only got there an hour or so before it started, so we never had a chance. People had been waiting since early that morning to get through the security checks for the closer sections.

Even where we were, though, the crowd was thick.

I'm glad we were there, if only to see Gene Robinson's amazing invocation. I'm still angry it was cut from the broadcast. But at least I've finally found a video of it.

Chris (my brother) and me. I guess we kind of look alike? I still can't see it.

Adorable 1830s steam engine in the Smithsonian

vix caught this pic of me crouching down, trying to understand the transmission gearing on the train. I thought it was pretty cute.

Morning of the Inauguration, sunrise over the Capitol, another 5 hours to go. This was right around the worst part of the wait, with the rush of getting in so early and fighting the crowds over, and just standing there freezing. It was like some bizarre Discovery Channel endurance challenge.

So, yeah, we were pretty cold. But the worst was over at this point.

This was what we could see, looking back down the Mall. It really looked like it was shoulder to shoulder, all the way back to the Washington Monument. Turns out that was an illusion -- all the high ground was taken, and that's all we could see! Still, very very crowded.

This was our view. With binoculars, figures could be made out fairly well. Michelle's dress certainly stood out, as the oath was being given.

After being snapped out of my awe of the historical spectacle by Rick Warren's tedious benediction, I turned my back on him. And I'm extra glad I did, because I never would have seen this guy if I hadn't.

All four of us after it was all over: vix, me, Chris, Chris' fiance Megan. After this we trudged back through the I-395 tunnel, up to the Senate offices and collapsed. We'd been standing for 10 hours at that point.

Really amusing was the couple we fell in with afterward (they asked us for directions and we were going the way they needed to go); the man immediately asked if they were brothers. And then was amused at the difference (clean-cut politician Chris vs. long-haired computer-geek Fishy).
I think I actually got him on video saying that, come to think of it; I still have to upload my videos.
