This is beautiful: a collection of internal BBC documents leading up to the first episode of Doctor Who. The first one is particularly great, it's an abstract analysis of SF as it stands in 1962 and how it might be adapted to television. I love how they use 'ironmongery' to refer to geewhiz gadgetry.

"Charles Eric Maine, who again can tell an interesting story without having to wipe out the human race in the process, is too much of a fantasist: He is obsessed with the Time theme, time-travel, fourth dimensions and so on - and we consider this indigestible stuff for the audience." Hee hee hee hee hee.
I salute their early attempt to avoid "Threat and Disaster" stories. I wish they'd managed to stick with that a bit better. But as this document meticulously notes, the stuff sells.
