So, it turns out I'll be going to Burning Man this year.

With my dad.

This is going to be interesting.

(I know at least a couple other of you out there are going. We should arrange some way to find each other.)

Come visit me in Ea-Cup-Tay, we're a part of Gigsville, and we should be on Esplanade.

This "finding each other" process is surprisingly difficult. :-)

No joke. I never did find [livejournal.com profile] xaotica, even if I did eventually find her camp.

Hot damn! I wish I were going with you both, of course. I'm not sure I'd want to camp with you both, though. I'm too much of a party girl. :D

Interesting to say the least. Assuming your dad has a pretty good idea of what it's about - he's read the stuff on their site, right? - that he would even agree to go speaks volumes about him.

Hell, it was his idea. He overheard me mention to my mom that I was thinking of going, and jumped on it. Turns out he has wanted to go for some time.

Nyeh heh heh. Awesome.

Burning Man, Awesome.

Burning Man/parent, *brain freeze*

Still, jealous. I've always wanted to go to one.

Congrats!
I am like so jealous. :)

Hey, not sure of our placement yet, but Kung Fu Sock Monkeys will be the camp. We'll hope to have Neon KungFu signs, a Kung Fu Sock Monkey Wind Sock and pneumatic sock monkey cannons.

You guys just doing a little two-man camp?

Yeah, nothing too fancy. I'm planning on taking the forge, offer general smithing services (like bending over the top of rebar stakes). That will be fun. Looks like we'll have a very nice solar electric setup as well.

I should pick your brains on the solar. I picked-up an el-cheapo solar panel for lighting (Harbor Freight, 45 watt system, sans battery, for $180 on sale). I need to figure-out the appropriate deep-cell battery to go with it.

I want to build a thermo-siphoning solar hot-water heater, but don't know that I'll have time to pull it off.

A solar hot water heater should be pretty trivial in that environment. I'll just be taking the solar shower I bought for the Mackenzie trip.

Batch solar is pretty trivial. Doing anything more flexible will require a little plumbing. One of my campmates whines that solar shower setups are either scorching hot at the end of the day, or cold by morning shower time. I want to fix both those problems. So, panel (made of either coroplast or old fridge coil) thermosiphoning to a insulated reservior (beverage dispenser type thing).

One of my big design goals is t eliminate (or mostly so) rebar from our camp. Or at least get the higher strength grade of rebar. Driving the bent-over rebar is a PITA, pulling also--campmate/leader says he loses a lot of rebar to bending, etc. every year. I was pondering doing some custom fabricated stakes out of aluminum, but might settle for some affordable commercial solutions at this point.

Hey, I was remembering your human-powered hovercraft idea....BM would be the most excellent venue for that....
