(no subject)

Tonight I flew down to Olympia with [livejournal.com profile] neuro42 to have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] corivax and [livejournal.com profile] caladri.

It was a lot of fun! Despite having so many pilot friends I've never managed to go flying with them before. It was a pretty nice day, and the Sound really is gorgeous from the air. I'm happy to report that my map-reading skills haven't atrophied since last summer. (And wow, doing it from a plane is so easy it's almost like cheating. Everything looks just like it does on the map! Much easier than comparing the angles between headlands from a canoe, creeping along at 5 kph.) I got some stick time, which was great, but humbling. That is a skill that will take me a while to learn, when I finally get around to getting my license.

So, in conclusion, whee flying!

Hello, Seattle!

Our state capitol building, seen from about 2,000 feet. It was the last impressive state capitol built, before the architectural depths of the 20th century really hit.

Our, uh, mighty steed. Long may it fly!

That's awesome. You should've taken pictures!

I did! I'm uploading them now, but it will take a bit.

Sounds like a blast! I'm mildly envious. :)

But on a technical note, I'm assuming you were using a chart, not merely a map. :)

(Maps don't necessarily contain navigational info, like distance, direction, airspace, beacons, etc.)

(I know, I'm being pedantic. :D )

That page would be better if it included the difference between a chart and a graph, too.

I'm 90% good about calling a chart a chart. However, here I was talking in the context of the maps we used on the canoe trip, which were definitely maps -- many times we wished they had been river navigation charts! So, if we're going to be pedantic. :)

Please forgive me. I goofed. When I originally read this, I thought /you/ were the pilot, and therefore ought to have known about aeronautical charts.

Mea culpa. My apologies.

Glad you had a good time!

Awesomeness! I'm all envious.
