God that's good!

Just got back from Sweeney Todd. While I missed some of the songs they cut out, I'm very, very happy with this version. It's easily one of the best movie adaptations of a musical I've seen.

After the movie we went out for ale and meat pies. Which was just awesome.

Hee! So did I, less the ale and meat pies. I have been singing "Nothing's gonna harm you; not while I'm around" under my breath for half an hour. :)

eta: Had red wine and (ground, balled-up) lamb kebabs for dinner. If there were any thumbnails, I didn't notice.

Johnny Depp kicks ass.

I was very impressed with him. Originally I was quite worried about a Burton/Depp adaptation, imagining something as needlessly mutated as their Willy Wonka. But no! It was completely faithful while still adding interesting new angles to the story. Excellent all around.

According to someone at Nerdvana tonight (Beaq I think?), the story goes that one of the producers was losing serious sleep over the choice of Depp, they had no idea whether Depp could sing or not. Then when someone finally plopped a tape recorder down on the guy's desk containing a tape of Depp actually singing, he cried tears of relief.
