I've been expecting this for several months now, but we hit USD/CAD unity today for the first time in my life. Normally I would be thrilled -- exchange rate jokes are so very tired. But I can't help but be annoyed this has happened just as I moved here to lead an economically marginal student lifestyle.

Hey, you can take your canuck TA wages and go blow them extravagantly in that banana republic south of 49! What was the name again? The Excited Snakes of America?

I'm sort of alarmed by all the people patting Canada on the back over this. "Hooray, we haven't exhausted our natural resources... yet! Our economy is declining a bit slower than the US' is!" I just know in a few years it'll catch up to us and I'll be scrambling to make the payments on my igloo and my beaver ranch.

How well does the exchange rate correlate with the firmness of your plans to move to Canada?
