Good day. Went to my first parkour jam in ages, dropped off the sleeping bag for some much-needed cleaning, and submitted the geocache and confluence visits for approval. Now I think I'll go veg for a bit.
Assuming a lack of any local group, how would you recommend getting into parkour? Your posts on it have always made it seem like fun, but like something which I'll hurt myself trying solo.
Hrm. A group certainly helps for learning the fancier stuff, but there are plenty of descriptions and video on the web. Basically, if the motion is smooth, continuous and efficient, you're doing it right. :)
There are quite a few of the more standard moves (in particular cat/monkey vaults) which it's really hard for me to convince my body won't kill it until I've seen someone actually do them over the same obstacle I'll be trying on at least once :)
Not that aikido-style dive rolls are a bad solution to many things which could be cat vaulted, but practicing with other people would make talking myself into trying new moves a lot easier.
