I just brought my venerable Coleman 425E dual-burner camping stove back to life and vacuumed several ounces of Columbia river sand out of it. The fuel pump died on the canoe trip when the ancient leather gasket in it cracked. We discovered this after being forced from the river by high winds and 2-3 foot waves. While it would have been nice to make hot chocolate, it was the very end of the trip and worked out okay.
I don't remember a time when this stove was not in my life. We used to go camping a lot when I was a kid, and this stove was always there. The hiss of the burners in the morning is deeply ingrained on my brain. Fixing it was just a matter of a $10 kit from REI, but it makes me very happy. It's ridiculously solid and could probably last another 30 years without too much trouble. I hope it does.
