I just officially accepted UBC's offer.

So, yeah, it's really happening. I'm going to grad school. In Vancouver. To study robotics. For lack of any other words: ZOMG.

I've been itching for a change for a while now. I've lived in Seattle for 11 years, and I'm starting to feel very provincial, having lived in the same state my entire life. BC is still adjacent, but I think it scores extra for being a different country. :)

That said, moving out of the Burrow is going to be a huge pain, if only because of the 1500 pounds of printing press in the basement. (I'll be posting more details about my insane summer moving plans later, but they include a canoe and being functionally homeless for 2 months.) There is no way I'm going to have the same kind of shop space in Vancouver.

The way UBC arranges things is that you first get a Masters, which is 2 years. (This seems to be the standard at Canadian universities, as compared to the US where you often end up directly in the PhD program.) I'm interested in continuing on for a PhD, which is another 4-lol years, but I don't have to make that decision anytime soon.
