Full 3 year warranties on laptops are a wonderful thing. (Particularly when paid for by the state.) My laptop boots reliably again! And the tab key doesn't stick! And both the trackpoint and trackpad work!

This is the third major repair it has undergone. Two motherboards, a screen, half the case, the keyboard, the palm rest and the harddrive. The only original components at this point are the processor and memory. (And it's possible those were swapped out with one of the mobo replacements. I wasn't watching.)

I love my poor abused laptop.

Out of curiosity, are you especially abusive to portable electronics or is the laptop just a particularly fragile design?

The screen being replaced was totally my fault -- I kind of dropped a bike on it. The rest I'm less sure of. I do take it with me everywhere, and I'm generally not the most graceful of people when I'm not paying attention to things. But it doesn't feel like I'm particularly abusive towards it...
