Black Friday

When did the term 'black friday' start getting used to refer to the Day After Thanksgiving, aka The Biggest Shopping Day of the Year, aka Buy Nothing Day?

I'd never seen it until about a week ago and now it's popping up everywhere.

I've always heard it called that -- meaning the day that the retailers balance goes positive (Black instead of red) for the year to date.
