parkour

I haven't been doing much parkour for the last few weeks, due to STP and a very annoying coccyx injury. But I have continued improving my upper-body strength, and I just tested myself on a small run around campus. It's always an amazing feeling when you find your body can do something it never could before.

I'm still not great at wall runs, but I'm not just hanging there useless anymore either. And I finally managed to do a couple kong vaults! They were ugly, but eh. Hopefully now that I've got past the mental block about diving headfirst towards hard objects, I should be able to refine the technique.

My main problem is that I still feel far too self-conscious to practice much by myself. Parkour isn't the most subtle of activities -- it draws a lot of attention.

Parkour looks like rather a lot of fun, but I can't think of anywhere I could easily practice without drawing annoying amounts of police attention.

("Honestly officer, I'm not running away from anything. Move Over and around things, really.")

"Top Gear" did a segment last week (or was it two weeks ago?) pitting Jeremy Clarkson in a car against two parkour-ites in a race across town.
Follow this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/programmes/?id=top_gear and check out episode 6 or 7.

Actually, I think you'd get a hoot out of the program in general.

Hee. I almost always love Top Gear segments. The parkour race is cool, but nothing will never top the pickup destruction challenge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQltQ6Qzdb4).

oh, yeah. That episode. They had to apologise for ramming the tree after they received lots of really irate mail from the village residents and town council.
