I found a surprise on the porch this morning:



It hopped around and mostly seemed curious about me. I tossed it some Wheat Thins, but it didn't recognize them as food. I watched for a bit to make sure it didn't need help. Eventually some other crows yelled at it (and maybe me) and led it into another yard. My resident corvid expert tells me that juveniles sometimes leave the nest a day or two early, and are usually fine as long as their parents are still watching over them. I hope it's okay, poor little awkward thing.

I haven't seen crows in so long, I forgot how small they are compared to ravens. Is that one still tiny by crow standards?

there was an author on npr a few days ago talking about his book about crows/corvids; he recounted the noah story where the raven, when asked to find land, tells noah that he only wants him to leave so he can be alone with the raven's mate. heh.

coincidentally, i don't recognize wheat thins as food, either.
