I'm in the early stages of planning a 4 day hike on the Olympic coast in late May. Which is a big yay, but it sure leaves me feeling itchy right now. If only the weather would clear up a bit and nightfall move back a bit so I could start riding my bike to work more regularly.

In not very related news, I've spent the last two nights working on a new version of the rope-enabled utility belt. I switched to 3mm cord, which means I can easily get 20 or more passes in a manageable thickness. This takes me well past the magic length, and I can now add '50 feet of rope' to my character sheet. (No, I wouldn't want to climb on it. But that's a fairly low-probability scenario, and it just isn't possible to carry a useful length of proper climbing rope. And in a real emergency, it would be better than nothing, particularly set up as a top belay...) I also added a fabric sheath, so the line will be more protected, less visually distracting, and less likely to get twisted up or catch on things. It still needs some more work, but I'm wearing it today as a test. No catastrophic failures yet.

I also finally sewed up a pouch for the spyglass, so it has officially joined the utility belt family. I'm still getting used to the new distribution of weight, and the pouch could use some more work, but I think it will work out well this way.

Yay! I didn't realized you'd finished the spyglass pouch. :)

I thought you said he was using the sewing machine last night? What'd you think he was doing, hemming a skirt? :-)

Working on the belt he's been posting about. Since that's the reason he actually asked me if he could use it, and the reason he bought a lot of heavy canvasish fabric. So :P
