Questions for lots of people

I'm told there is power available at Golden Gardens. So, Seattle people, who would be interested in a smelting/beach party sometime this summer? The next couple weeks are pretty full, but maybe in late July. I know there is at least one birthday coming up...

Random question to everyone: Do you think there would be a market for 'Aaron Burr Shot First' tshirts?

I would buy one if they came in my size.

Yeah, that would be awesome. Will provide manual labor.

(if you could get a bicycle-powered bellows mechanism going, I could go for hours =D)

[livejournal.com profile] shadowblue and I were talking about that at Beth's late last night. Given that it would be on sand, making a stable base for it would be a pain. And connecting a blower to a bike non-destructively wouldn't be easy either. As cool as it would be, I think I'll stick with the electric blower.

I'd really really like to be there for it, which puts my actual birthday weekend out of the running. Weekend after that maybe?

Likely, you will run into problems from the parks department; they actively patrol the beach fires, including the ones in the pits. You'd only be able to get away with it by doing it in one of the pits. Good luck, tho.

I dunno; I'd think if Fish approaches them and suggests an archaeometallurgical demonstration free and open to the public, and keeps it on the sandy beach, they'd actually be quite supportive of the idea.

I doubt they'd go for it on the beach itself; they're quite strict, and it's against the law (the signs that say no beach fires have LCWs on them, IIRC). That said, they might go for it in one of the designated pits.

Last time I was there the beach was covered with fires, and the only official response was to kick us out when the park closed at 23:00. Compared to a bonfire, a pit furnace is pretty inoffensive.

*nod* I've had a fire off the pits, too. But they do come along and tell you to put it out. FYI.

I'd be interested in smelting.

I'd be fascinated by smelting, but it's a looong drive from here (Phoenix) so I must pass.

Aaron Burr t-shirt: Sure. XL, maybe XXL. A hoot.
