Fuck you, Lucas. You call yourself a director? How could you look at half of that footage and say, 'Yes! That's the take we want!' What kind of scary autistic universe do you live in where people talking like that looks normal? You wasted so much potential in that movie. I can forgive, somewhat, not living up to my hopes. Artist differences and all that. But to have potential there, in the concept, the universe, the actors and (sometimes) the script, and just not caring enough to get that extra take or spend the extra time editing a scene until it clicks? No mercy. Call yourself a storyteller, maybe. Or a moviemaker. Or a fucking hack. But you don't get to claim to be a director. You have given up that right.

(Less ranty: You know what would have been really cool? If Padme had been carrying triplets. That would have been wonderfully headbreaky.)

Like I've told everyone else:

I'll see episode III when they call it "we apologize for episodes I and II"

But they don't. It's not a significantly better movie than the first two. :/

How disapointing.

The first two were positively awful; unwatchable really (except perhaps for a couple of scenes with Dooku). The third is way better by comparison. No Jar Jar, or his equivalent (there's a few bits with R2D2, but it doesn't even come close). That in itself goes a long way.

Mm.. I suppose you've got a point. I don't find R2-D2 annoying at all, actually. It (he?) was played up more in III than in IV-VI, but it doesn't talk, just bleeps in an endearingly human way...

III touched on a lot more emotional and philosophical themes than I or II, but some of the plot holes and character aspects are still pretty galling. As though Lucas finally *tried* to make a good Star Wars movie (as opposed to two hours of pod races and CGI battles) but made just enough missteps that the final result is less than thrilling.

Have to admit I was quite impressed with Palpatine's ability to manipulate people at just the right moment.

Yeah. I think Palpatine's rise was the strongest story arc of episodes I-III (maybe all the 6 movies). It was really well done, although it was often hard to see through all the really bad scenes. Episode II was exceptionally cringe-worthy, acting-wise.

Actually it is. It's just that that's not saying much. :)
