vixyish's back pains got so bad during the night that we went into the ER. Turns out to be a big muscle spasm. They gave her a super-ibuprofen injection and a scrip for valium. She will be resting today and I will be working on calming down from 'omg mysterious back and neck pains on the left side of the body bad enough to wake someone up, go go go!'
So, in conclusion, we moved out towards the suburbs and now my wife is on valium. We're totally living the American Dream.
I've been told that the juniper-berry extract in gin is a muscle relaxant. Makes a good excuse, anyway.
In my case (I've had an intermittently-dodgy back for almost 30 years now), I've found that asprin works better than ibuprofen, but your mileage may vary.
The worst possible thing you can do for back pain is sit in a chair. The second worst is stand up in one place. Lying down is best, and walking (even if it hurts some) is second best. Exercises are good; see a physical therapist.
