(no subject)

I am currently encoding video of Japanese ERs during the subway sarin attack. No narration or anything, just a bunch of raw footage. There are all these guys in blue jumpsuits with white helmets running around. It looks at lot more like a Godzilla movie than it should.

This is part of a video project I'm doing for work. They're part of a class teaching public health representatives how to deal with the media during an emergency. I got to direct paid actors last week -- and no one laughed at me as a rank amateur!

Sometimes I really like my job. :)

See? I told you you'd be great. :)

At least the guys in Japanese hazmat suits make for better stock footage than most emergency-safety videos.

You know you're a success if:
- your video has fewer than two instances of talking heads with vacant stares speaking in concerned, enunciated tones about Emergency Management
- the acting under your direction is not so cheesy that the audience bursts out giggling

I have seen WAY too many Red Cross videos. I love it when they try to act going into shock.

I wonder if you can make a career out of educational disaster movies.
