Yeah, we (as in pretty much everyone we encounter daily) eat a lot more than we need as a bare minimum. I've never really looked at the hard data, though. I'd like to know what, exactly, a human being needs as a minimum per day to function. I should look that up.
On the other end of the eating spectrum, I'd also like to know what the foodie scientist people think is the perfect amount of food (per kg & relative amount of activity, or however it's done.) Apparently the Canada Food Guide is good for such things, but I've never read it. But I bet it's better than the U.S. whateveritsequivalent is.
They should hand it out on street corners in front of McDonalds.
