Do you think there is a social pecking order for rocks? Do igneous rocks look down on all the other rocks? Do sedimentary and metamorphic rocks both scorn each other as sell-out wannabes?

The main difficulty when rocks discriminate against each other, is how hard it is to move to a better neighborhood. The oldest granits understand this, and so make allowances, but sedimentary rocks are particularly noted for their social stratification.

Various carbon arraingements have supposedly figured out a way to go to a "better" world, but since none of their neighbors have heard from them again, diamond, coal, and petrolium could all just cease to exist, for all their neighbors can tell.
