Introduction was malcolm gladwell's Blink, which was largely unsatisfying, but it did lead me to a bunch of neurobiologists writing about how they didn't believe in either the concept or the reality of free will and discussing how intelligent behavior could come out of iterative pattern-matching systems that are sufficiently complex to start looking for patterns in the pattern-matching equipment.
