The look of the sun at totality -- at that moment, yeah, I could understand both why it caused a lot of tumult in early historic times, and what Isaac Asimov was thinking when he wrote Nightfall (which, previously, didn't make a lot of sense to me.) The eerie shadows were definitely the weirdest part. Well before totality everything looked so strange.
