I get acclimated to ranges -- I've spent so long working in either laser fabrication or PCB fabrication that I work in mils better than in what I'd call natural distances. As such, it'd sure be nice to have more useful and widely-known units in those ranges. Megameters makes sense, too, even though nobody uses it. It sounds kludgy and awkward to me to refer to 10,000 km, like saying two hundred hundreds.
