a long slow zoom

I'm in Spokane and the Kalamazoo is (mostly) reassembled. I'm going to leave off the pump arm and the lantern mounts, seems silly to provide so much leverage to potential shifting accidents during the drive down. The last item on the official to-do list was finally checked off: attach the builder's plate. Looks pretty nice with the stained wood. I ended up putting it on the front, and I think that may have been a mistake. Just wanted it to be visible, with the way the deck is now inclined. Oh well.

Tomorrow I drive to Alturas and meet the rest of my camp at a motel there. I'll actually get some real some Sunday night! Maybe setting up Monday won't be quite so horrific this way. I think I'm going to cut way west and take 97 south through Oregon on the way down. 395 is a lot more direct, but it cuts through some pretty vicious hills. With the trailer and 800 pounds of water, it's very slow going at times. Nominally this other route will be an hour slower, but I bet it ends up being pretty much the same. New roads, too, I always like that.

I may or may not have access in Alturas tomorrow, so don't expect to see anything from me for another week. Goodbye, default world! I'm going home!
