Night Kitchen sign

By this point, hopefully most of my Seattle readers have been to The Night Kitchen. All night service, tasty food -- no brainer.

Assuming you've been, the sandwich board from out front should be familiar:

But... it doesn't really stand out, does it? It does now!

I (in my Attoparsec guise) got hired to add el-wire. First paying gig! The project was actually finished a week ago, but I kept forgetting to take a camera to get pictures. Getting the lettering crisp was a huge pain, but I'm quite happy with how it came out. We've been having a bit of trouble keeping the battery charged, which is why it's currently in my garage and not downtown. The new charger should fix that, and this gave me the chance to clean up the electronics inside generally, and fix some usability issues that I hadn't thought of originally.

Was it a problem with the charger, then? That's a relief.
And it does look fabulous.

This is so, so awesome.

Nice job! And yay getting paid! How did you stick it on?

Y'know what? I like that face a lot better with reduced (almost eliminated, really) serifs. Gives it a nice deco feel. Particularly combined with the neon-like effect of the el-wire.

Cool!

Technically I think it was a problem with the power supply, but we'll see. A test run for 8 hours last night was promising, after about ~5 hours of charging.

The lettering is done by drilling a hole at each vertex and threading the el-wire through, to give those crisp edges. The wavy blue line was just sewn in place with wire through a series of small holes. The original plan was to have the yellow skyline as well, but getting that much detail has escaped me so far. I was going to glue the el-wire directly to the inside of the acrylic covering, but the clamping requirements have escaped me so far. Oh well, leftover el-wire, whatever can I do with that?
