During a rather satisfying game today (i.e., I won when I really shouldn't have) we came up with a rules variant: L33t Scrabble, where you can play a tile as either the letter or the score number on it. Scoring would still follow the original distribution, to prevent things from getting unbalance. (So a C/3 being played as an E would only be worth 1 point, like normal Es.)

I have no idea how fun it would be to play, but I love the idea.

Cs are such a pain that'd be a welcome change, but I'm not sure there's enough uses for 1-point letters in leet speak, and it seems a shame to use it just as an out when one has high-points, low-utility letters.

In my Scrabble variant (not yet tested!), all players have infinitely many of every letter. The only constraints are the dictionary and the time.

I got lucky, but I'm simply not in [livejournal.com profile] cow's league.
