As some of you may know, I spent a good amount of Feburary writing DJ Hawking, an mp3 playing agent with a web interface that does standard playlist manipulations as well as announce songs and make quirky statements using the very nice AT&T text-to-speech engine.

More recently I finally set things up so I could play video from my windows box onto the living room TV. But this required much running back and forth between files and was generally annoying. So this weekend I wrote a VJ (not VJ Hawking, since it doesn't talk or have a personality in the same way) to do it for me.

And it works. Mostly. ASF files tend not to work. And I'm still having audio codec problems with certain AVIs. And I hate Visual Basic. But, I can sit at the i-opener in the living room, pull up the VJ interface page in lynx, choose from a listing of public/Media/Video, play/pause/stop, and have it all show up on the TV. Not bad.
