I felt rather underdressed at Burning Man last year, being basically limited to t-shirts and a Utilikilt. I've been too pre-occupied with the projects to do any real costuming, but I decided I should make an effort to gather what I could now that all my Seattle stuff is accessible again. I found my old bowler hat, which had ended up sadly squished during the move. But I'm happy to report that 10 minutes with a boiling kettle has steamed back into shape, more or less. I also pulled out a WWII gasmask bag that I bought from American Science and Surplus many years ago, and repaired the strap where it had torn off. My old late high school cargo vest (which still had a free speech blue ribbon in one of the pockets!) should serve pretty well as the mount for the sunglasses electronics package. I'm going to try hitting a Goodwill or something tomorrow on my way out of town, and I just might find a uniform store to pick up a cheap lab coat. Costuming still isn't really my thing, though I'm feeling myself increasingly interested in it, but it feels good to make an effort. The sunglasses and the laser helmet will remain my real sartorial statements, obviously.
