This Friday, August 5, we'll be hosting a smelting/birthday party at the Burrow. (Directions available upon request.) I'll be starting around 15:00, but the run lasts for 6 hours, so don't worry about showing up late. The first charge should go it at 16:00.
This will also double as a highly informal birthday party for
vixyish. No presents required.
Come to be social -- the smelting itself is just adding charcoal to a very hot hole in the ground. We'll certainly be making smores and we'll probably fire up the barbeque. If you want anything specific, bring it.
The smelting will be very similar to the last experiments, with some improvements. The furnace lining will be sandstone that I found at a local rockyard. The ore will be much higher quality and actually contain copper this time. Same cylindrical furnace shape that we used for the second run last time. If there is interest, we might set up the forge or do some flintknapping to pass the time. Ancient technologies for everyone!
